Headaches and migraines.

Are many factors that can cause headache: physical and mental stress, external agents such as strong odors, loud noises, food problems, drugs, in addition to labor causes such as long before periods a computer, handling of heavy machinery, forced positions generated muscle tension...

The origin of the headache is usually associated with an excess of serotonin release and a decrease in the pain threshold. We must distinguish between three types of headache:

FaCephalalgia: It includes any painful discomfort in the cranial vault, being the result of inflammation or distortion (traction or compression) of brain structures that are sensitive to pain.

E Headache: It is the feeling of heaviness, tension or punctures at the cranial level. The headache is a slight headache, but of longer duration. Headaches in turn, are subdivided into tension (play a very important role the contraction of the muscles of the head) and accumulate or in salvos (lasting more intense, it should to peaks of histamine).

Migrant Frogs: It is a recurrent, throbbing and intense headache which usually affects a half, although it can affect both. The pain starts suddenly and may be preceded or accompanied by Visual, neurological and gastrointestinal symptoms. It is 2 times more frequent in women than in men.

Causes:

' De migraines: ' are due to genetic, vascular factors (dilation of intracranial arteries that activate pain receptors), hormonal (eg PMS), abuse of alcohol, stress, fatigue, long journeys, hits and sudden changes in temperature. The drugs involved include oral contraceptives, indomethacin isosorbide dinitrate, nifedipine, reserpine, amphetamines, etc.

De the Tensional headache: It can be triggered by a contraction of muscles of the head and neck (producing ischemia in the interior of the contracted muscle), stress, work or family distress sustained.

AccumDe accuminate headaches: They may be due to consumption of alcoholic beverages; lack of oxygen; intravenous injection of histamine (therefore considered that pain appears the spontaneous histamine release).

There are various plant active ingredients that help to regulate the physiological mechanism of our body, helping to counteract these nuisances.

Plant assets

Willow - The active ingredient in Willow bark was isolated for the first time in 1828 at the University of Munich, it was a bitter, yellowish substance called salicin. This substance is hydrolyzed in the body by the action of the intestinal flora form saligenin which is absorbed and oxidized to salicylic acid which exerts one analgesic activity among others. It must be emphasized that Salicylic compounds have an antiplatelet effect

much more low compared with acetyl salicylic acid. According to the European Commission and the ESCOP, Willow bark is indicated for the relief of pain, including mild headaches.

TANSY - Tanacetum partenium also known as feverfew, Daisy-like appearance, is cultivated in Europe for its medicinal value for centuries. Since the 15th century, ls English herbalists considered it useful in the treatment of the headaches, migraines. The main assets are sesquiterpene lactones, mainly parthenolides, which is the most abundant. Various studies have been shown its preventive effect on migraine. The summary is proven to increase the way pain threshold dose. Feverfew extract is also able to inhibit the release of serotonin from platelets activity attributed to the parthenolide. According to the European Agency for the medically (EMA) and the ESCOP, tanacetum is indicated for the prophylaxis of migraine, what has been confirmed in several studies to double-blind, controlled versus placebo. These studies concluded that feverfew leaf was able to reduce the frequency of migraine attacks, as well as vomiting associated with the attacks. In addition, in one of them found that it also reduced the severity of them. In a recent study conducted following the guidelines of the International Headache Society, found the usefulness of a stable supercritical CO2 extract of the leaves in the prophylactic treatment of migraine. The study was conducted on a sample of 170 patients who received 6.25 mg. extract (equivalent to 0.5 mg of parthenolide) or placebo 3 times a day for 16 weeks. The group receiving the real treatment reduced the number of attacks during 28 days of 4.8 to 2.9 (1.9 reduction compared to 1.3 in the placebo group).

MEADOWSWEET - The Meadowsweet were extracted first salicylates of antipyretic properties, which would later give rise to the aspirin. Of echo the name of aspirin comes from the Latin name Spiraea Ulmaria. Traditionally used as analgesic, antipyretic, diaphoretic and diuretic. In a clinical study applied topically a decoction of Meadowsweet flower cream patients with cervical Dysplasia, noting an improvement in 67% of patients, with a rate of greater than 50% complete remission.

Ginger - its antiemetic activity is primarily associated with the present gingerols of local effect on the gastrointestinal tract. The gingerols are inhibitors posts of the araquinonic acid metabolism, so ginger also has remarkable anti-inflammatory action. According to ESCOP, ginger Rhizome is indicated in the prophylaxis of nausea and vomiting in motion sickness (dizziness of the trip) and as a postsurgical antiemetic in minor surgical interventions. Efficiency in both directions has been confirmed in clinical trials. A clinical study on a preparation that combines ginger and tansy demonstrated its efficacy to reduce the headache and migraine in about 60%.

CAPSICUM - The main action is the analgesic, although it also has anti-inflammatory properties. Capsaicin has been widely studied as analgesic, it is especially useful in low-back pain. Cayenne is used in various formulations herbal medicine master in order to increase the speed in the assimilation of the active ingredients in the formula
